Domain: Eukarya Kingdom:Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Family:Felidae Genus: Felis Species: Felis Catus Location: As was stated in history, the domestic cat 'originated' in ancient Mesopotamia, moving into Egypt. Eventually it occupied almost every country, besides Antarctica and a few islands. Habitat: They are very adaptable, so they can live in busy cities or remote towns. They tend to be anywhere that a human might be, since it is their best chance for food. Fun Facts: 1) One sure sign that a cat is friendly with others, is to watch its body language. Upon approaching, the cats tail should be straight up in the air and the back should not be arched. Also, the ears should be sticking upward instead of flattened to the head 2) Cats are major predators of rodents and other small wild animals. Outside domestic cats are capable of killing hundreds of wild animals per year, but it's not typical. Small town cats kill about 14 animals a year. Small mammals make up about 70% of the outside cats diet, whereas birds make up about 20%. 3)The domestic cat is capable of having up to three litters annually. A female cat is able to get pregnant after about seven months of age. A male cat becomes sexually mature around the age of nine months. 4)Cats' eyes have very well adapted photoreceptors for seeing in the dark and to help spot and catch their prey. 5) Compared to other mammals the cat's small intestine is much smaller. This allows for a quicker metabolism and more energy intake Endangerment: They are not endangered Human Interaction: They are genuinly loved and adored by humans. They are often times house cats or outside cats.
