Scientific Name- Necator americanus Class- Secernentea Location- South East Asia, India, Sub- saharan Africa, Tropical America Description of habitat- Facts- 1) Hookworm eggs absorb their nutrients via absorption from the host feces, therefore they must be in soils of neutral pH. 2)The eggs of the hookworm have developed a thin shell that serves as protection. This shell allows them to not be harmed as they travel through and out of the digestive tract. 3)Problems caused by hookworms: -Malnutrition -Anemia due to high blood loss and iron deficiency -Hypoproteinemia, or low protein levels -Cardiac complications -Severe acute pulmonary and gastrointestinal reaction -In children, infections have stunted growth and even caused below average intelligence. Other symptoms: -Itchy, red, rash at penetration site -Fever -coughing -Wheezing -Loss of appetite -Diarrhia -Weight loss Hookworms are not endangered. There is no human impact except for their impact on humans such as making them sick.
